Shooting Drill Library

A reference set of pistol drills covering fundamentals, speed, precision, and manipulation — Dot Torture, Bill Drill, El Presidente, Box Drill, and more, each with printable targets and logging.

Fundamentals Dot Torture 10 dots on a sheet, 2 rounds per dot from various positions/speeds (draw, strong hand only, reload, etc). Any miss = start that dot over. Builds precision trigger control. Speed Bill Drill From the holster, draw and fire 6 rounds into the A-zone of a target as fast as accuracy allows. Great for tracking draw speed and recoil recovery. Precision 5x5 Drill 5 rounds into a 5-inch circle at 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 yards, on a par time. Tests accuracy degradation with distance. Speed/Transitions El Presidente Turn away from 3 targets at 10 yards, on start signal turn, draw, 2 rounds each target, reload, 2 rounds each target again. Classic all-round test. Transitions Box Drill Two targets side by side. Fire pairs on each target alternating, working smooth and efficient transitions between targets. Scenario Failure to Stop (Mozambique) 2 rounds to center mass, 1 round to the head, simulating a follow-up after a failed stop. Trains transition and follow-through under a changing plan. Dry Fire Wall Drill (Dry Fire) Press the trigger while watching the front sight/dot against a blank wall — any movement of the sight during the press is a flaw to fix. No ammo needed, do this often. Dry Fire/Diagnostic Ball and Dummy Drill Have a partner load your mag with a random mix of live and dummy rounds. Any noticeable flinch/dip on the dummy rounds reveals recoil anticipation. Fundamentals Strong/Support Hand Only Fire slow-fire groups using only your dominant hand, then only your support hand. Exposes grip and trigger control issues masked by a two-hand grip. Manipulation Reload Drill From slide-lock or a fixed round count, practice both slide-lock and proactive reloads on a timer. Track reload time as a standalone metric.
